Hi, I'm Bruce

Welcome to my campaign for Mayor of Milton! I’m running to lead our city with a practical, people-first vision that prioritizes safety, fiscal responsibility, and preserving Milton’s unique character.

As your City Council member since 2021, I’ve never missed a meeting, declined all reimbursements for official expenses, and fought for our community. I’ve voted against every property tax increase, advocating fiscal restraint during years of budget surpluses to ease the burden on residents. I’ve fought to keep utility rates affordable and secured $250,000 in additional police funding in 2025, ensuring a trusted, effective force that reflects our values. As mayor, I’ll make Milton safer by hiring a dedicated traffic enforcement officer to curb speeding and add sidewalks for walkable, family-friendly neighborhoods.

My commitment is clear: a thriving Milton with historic charm, green spaces, and a welcoming community. I’ll tackle rising costs, streamline city services for efficiency, and keep government transparent and accessible. But I can’t do it alone—I need your support and your vote.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me. If you see me around town, please say hi. I always love meeting new folks from Milton.

What I'll Do For You As Mayor

Fully Funding Public Safety

Not increasing taxes, utilizing more grant funding

  • Strengthening Our Police Force: As mayor, I will champion a police force that keeps Milton safe while fostering trust, ensuring officers are approachable, effective, and reflective of our community’s values, prioritizing resident safety and community engagement.
  • Securing Critical Funding: I helped secure $250,000 in additional police funding in 2025 to strengthen our law enforcement capabilities, ensuring our officers are well-equipped to protect Milton.
  • Enhancing Traffic Safety: I'll hire a dedicated traffic enforcement officer to patrol neighborhoods, addressing speeding and protecting children and pedestrians, making our streets safer for all.
  • Prioritizing Officer Resources: My commitment ensures our police have the tools, training, and support needed to serve Milton effectively, maintaining a secure community where residents feel protected.

  • Paving Neighborhood Streets: I will champion the paving of neighborhood streets to ensure smooth, safe roads that enhance mobility and improve the quality of life for all Milton residents.
  • Improving Storm Drainage: I will invest in upgrading storm drainage systems to protect neighborhoods from flooding and ensure reliable infrastructure that meets the needs of our growing community.

  • Pledging No Property Tax Increases: I will continue my record of opposing property tax increases, especially when Milton’s budget is in surplus, ensuring residents, particularly those on fixed incomes, are not burdened unnecessarily.
  • Boosting Economic Growth: By fostering a thriving local economy, we will generate increased sales tax revenue to fund city services and projects, maintaining Milton’s appeal as a stable and affordable community.
  • Securing Grant Funding: I will actively pursue grants to help pay for local projects, maximizing external funding to support infrastructure and community improvements without relying on local taxpayer dollars.
  • Maintaining Fiscal Responsibility: My commitment to fiscal restraint ensures that city resources are managed wisely, leveraging budget surpluses and grants to deliver high-quality services while preserving Milton’s affordability.

  • Respecting the Citizen Vote: Regardless of my personal views, I pledge to follow the direction of Milton’s citizens based on the November vote on the proposed fireworks ban, ensuring our community’s voice guides my actions as mayor.
  • Enforcing Existing Laws: In my view, we should try enforcing the existing “If it goes up, or blows up, it’s illegal” law before adding more restrictions, as not one ticket has been issued since the law was passed.
  • Preserving Community Traditions: I support maintaining the joy and brilliance of safe, family-friendly fireworks celebrations, which strengthen Milton’s spirit and align with our historic 4th of July traditions.
  • Supporting Local Nonprofits: I recognize the importance of firework sales to local nonprofits, which fund vital programs, boost our economy, and enhance community engagement in Milton.
  • Protecting Community Spirit: I am committed to preserving the vibrant heritage of Milton by supporting policies that keep families and children engaged in joyful, safe celebrations without unnecessary bans.

Improving our Water Quality

Improving our Water Quality

Improving our Water Quality

  • Addressing Resident Concerns: Based on surveys conducted while campaigning, I recognize water quality as a critical issue in Milton, with residents reporting odors, dirty water, and high mineral content that must be addressed to meet community expectations.
  • Identifying Water Quality Issues: High mineral content shortens the lifespan of appliances and water heaters, leading to significant replacement costs for residents, and causes water spot staining on windows and countertops, requiring extra effort to constantly dry surfaces to prevent stains.
  • Eliminating Odors and Contaminants: I will prioritize upgrades to water treatment systems to remove unpleasant odors and ensure clean, clear water flows from every tap in Milton.
  • Mitigating Mineral Content: I will invest in solutions to reduce excessive mineral content, extending the lifespan of appliances to save residents money and eliminating water spot staining to reduce the burden of constant surface maintenance.

Increasing Transparency and Communication

Increasing Transparency and Communication

  • Launching Community Conversations: I will create regular "Community Conversations" events where the police chief, public works director, and I provide updates in an informal setting, fostering open dialogue and keeping residents informed about city developments.
  • Hosting Quarterly Stakeholder Meetings: I will establish quarterly meetings with Milton’s local business owners/managers to listen to their concerns, share city plans, and ensure their voices shape our community’s future.
  • Organizing Town Hall Meetings: I will facilitate town hall meetings with higher-level government officials to connect residents with state and county leaders, enhancing transparency and collaboration on issues impacting Milton.
  • Promoting Accessible Communication: I will prioritize clear, consistent updates through multiple channels, ensuring all residents have easy access to information about city initiatives, decisions, and opportunities to engage.

About Me

Born in Southern California, my family moved to the Big Island of Hawaii when I was 6 years old, where I was shaped by the values of community and aloha. I graduated from Parker High School in Kamuela in 1984 and pursued higher education at Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon, earning a BS in Computer Science in 1988.

Since moving to Washington in 1993, I’ve lived in Renton, Kent, and now Milton, my home since 2012. My career as a computer and database programmer, primarily for retail companies and law firms, has honed my problem-solving and data-driven approach to public service.

In 2001, I was elected as a city council member in Kent, serving one 4-year term, gaining valuable experience in local governance and community leadership. As a current Milton city councilman, I’ve opposed property tax increases, secured funding for public safety, and prioritized resident concerns. My vision is a stronger, safer, and more affordable Milton, guided by community voices. I’m ready to lead as your mayor with integrity and a people-first approach.
